The Promise
Good morning brothers and sisters. Yesterday I asked a question. If you don't know the question then go back and read yesterday's devotion. See in these devotions you are watching God work through someone when they allow Him to. You are watching someone grow. You are watching someone stumble. You are watching someone ask for repentance from God and from other people. You are watching someone who gets it wrong and then gets it right. See that is the beauty of God's grace and His mercy. But I do want to focus on the Holy Spirit. Do you realize that is a gift from God? He has never left us. I want us to go back to Acts 1:4-8. 4- And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to WAIT for the Promise of the Father, "which, He said, you have heard from Me; 5- for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." There is our promise. The Holy Spirit. Notice He told them to wait. And if you read yesterday, I am VERY bad at that and I think the disciples had a hard time with this also. 6- Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" This is what they truly wanted. And I don't blame them. They were anxious. We all need to be aware that this is after Jesus was risen from the dead but still hadn't ascended to heaven. Jesus answers their questions. 7- And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority." He told them to wait. Jesus in the same breath gave them hope. And that hope is still for us today who want to receive it. 8- "But you shall receive POWER when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth." He told them to wait and go about the Father's business. We also do not know the day or hour but we are to go about the Father's business. And that is to be witnesses to the end of the earth. What are you to witness to? Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior and what He has done in your life. Your testimony is your witness. Quoting scripture to the unbeliever is foolish but the way you live is a living, breathing testimony of Jesus in your life. Let the Holy Spirit speak to you today. Open your ears to His calling and let Him come alive. And lets get on with the Father's business. Have a blessed day! Rise up child of God, rise up!
