Maybe Saul?
Good morning brothers and sisters. Yesterday I did do what God asked of me and it was ok. But I really talked about having the faith of Stephen. He wasn't afraid. He knew God. He knew Jesus. He knew what it felt like to listen to the Holy Spirit and moved on it. But I want to pick up where Stephen just told them that he saw Jesus at the right hand of God. Because I want to look at another person in this scene. Acts 7:56- and he said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!" 57- Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord;. Now lets just stop there for a moment. Stephen didn't say Jesus, he said Son of Man. And their response was, I do not want to hear this and attacked him. They knew who the Son of Man was. But they didn't want to hear it. But lets keep going because I haven't gotten to the one yet. 58- and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul. Now they drug him out of the city and threw stones at him. I mean, come on, that is a horrible way to go. But look at who was there. Saul! Yes, the Saul. I want to look at him but first lets look how Stephen replied. 59- And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." He knew he was dying and who did he call to. His Savior! 60- Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep. Stephen didn't run, he stood his ground even when the pain was more than he could bear. And he prayed for his accusers. That is the faith that I want. But back to Saul. He stood and watched this. But lets dig a little deeper to the attitude of Saul. Acts 8: 1-3. Now Saul was CONSENTING to his death. (This is Stephen). At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. 2- And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. 3- As for Saul, he MADE havoc of the church, entering EVERY house, and dragging off men and women, committing them to prison. Now Saul was a Hebrew with Roman citizenship. This is an important detail. He also studied the Hebrew Law under Rabbi Gamaliel. Saul knew the word. He knew of the prophecies of the Messiah. He knew! But yet here he is condemning and killing them. Now are you a Saul? You know all that Saul knows but do you know Jesus? We will finish this! Have a blessed day! Rise up child of God, rise up!
