Going back

Good morning brothers and sisters. Why oh why do we turn back to our old selves? Why do we forget the promises of God and return to the way it use to be? I for the life of me can not fathom it. But all of us do it. Or maybe you don't know that you have went back. Maybe you think everything is just fine. This morning God got a hold of me and He got a hold of me good. I was sitting and drinking coffee and was looking at something when God urged me to open the Bible to Galatians chapter 4. So I started reading it and my heart nearly melted when I got to verse 8. You see here is where it talks about going back to legalism. Here is where it talks about going back to your old ways. We sometimes put ourselves in bondage when Jesus has set us free. Why would anyone go back to the bondage? Lets take a look at these verses. And maybe just maybe God is speaking to just my heart. He is telling me not to go back to the way it was before I truly came to know Jesus Christ. Galatians 4:8-10. 8- But then, indeed, when you did not know God, you served those which by nature are not gods. Now this was me before I truly sought out Jesus Christ. I followed religion. I did all the rules. I went to church every time the doors were opened. I worked in the church. I did it all. If following the religious rules was the standard for heaven, I was going. But I sought after false gods. And that my friend is the scariest part of all. When you think you are following Jesus but you have no clue that you are not. 9- But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements to which you desire again to be in bondage? See when it all came crashing to the ground and I had no one but God, this is when I truly became a follower of Jesus. I truly sought out Jesus as my everything. See I am known by God. He knows me when I get it right. He knows me when I get it wrong. He corrects me when I get it wrong and blesses me when I get it right. 10- You observe days and months and seasons and years. Here is where our old habits come back into play. There is a scripture that Jesus tells us in Matthew that He never knew us. Oh we need to know, Jesus knows every human being on this earth but to be known by Him is to have a intimate relationship with Him. He is not only our Savior but also our Lord. We serve Him and only Him. Now I am not saying that you should not do what you have always done. I am saying just step out of the boat and watch Jesus radically change how you think, feel, and act. To some people, they will not be able to take it. But to some people and new people, they will know exactly what you have done and are going through. These people have done it and will be a better and closer friend than you could ever imagine. They are followers of Christ. Don't go back to the legalism. And if you have never left it, I urge you. I invite you to step out of the boat and come to where Jesus is. Have a blessed day! Rise up child of God, rise up!
