Facing your giants

Good morning brothers and sisters. We all have things to go through and when we are going through them it seems tough. But God calls us to face personal giants in our lives. These giants seem bigger, stronger and more equipped than we are. But face them we must. Let's take a look at 1 Samuel 17. Here the Israelites were facing the Philistines. The Philistine's army was bigger and stronger. Now the Philistines sent out Goliath, which was an enormous size of a man. He was way bigger than any man they had seen before. They were scared of him. But one young man was not afraid. Goliath challenged them to send out one man to fight him and this battle would be over. He was so confident that he even said that if the one man could defeat him, the Philistines would be the Israelites' servants. So here is this young man who was not afraid, David. David's brothers even made fun of him. David was getting strikes from all around. So after words were said, Saul sent for David. David knew that God was with him and told Saul as much. Saul still trying to do it the human way, dressed David for battle. 38- So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. But look at verse 39- David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, "I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them." So David took them off. David took off what man gave him for protection and got what God needed him to have. 40- Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag; in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine. Do you know what these five stones represent in David? 1-Commitment; 2-Courage; 3-Communication; 4-Capability; 5-Confidence. Now David didn't have these without having faith in God. God equipped David with all that he needed and guess what? 50- So David prevailed over the Philistines with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. One sling, one stone and a whole lot of faith in what God had instilled in David. So when you are facing a giant, take it to the Lord and only to the Lord. He will equip us with all that we need for battle. Rise up child of God, rise up!
