Are we this?

Good morning brothers and sisters. As I sit and ponder things, I was reading what John had wrote to the 7 churches while he was exiled on the island of Patmos. Now you would think that John would be discouraged and depressed but not so. He took this time to hear from the Lord and write our book of the Bible- Revelation. So I would like to look at one of the churches that John addressed. But before I do, I have a question? I know these warnings were to literal churches but for us today, are they literal or are they stages a church can go through? What kind of church we should or shouldn't be? Just curious! So lets look at Revelation 2: 12-17. 12- And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write, "These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword: 13- I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan's throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. Jesus points out what they were doing right first.14- But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. 15- Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Now notice God doesn't hate the Nicolaitans but the doctrine that they hold. I need to make that very clear. What doctrines does our churches today hold fast to that makes God angry? I will challenge you not to look at other doctrines but your own. Test and see if they are truly of God or are they just a preference? There is a difference! Do they hold these doctrines because they are Biblical or because of tradition some man had so many years ago. And why do they hold these doctrines? Now onward! 16- REPENT or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth. You know a big chunk of the Bible is about REPENTANCE! Why do we hate that word so much? Why do we not preach it? And finally, 17- He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it." I want a new name! I want to hear "Welcome home faithful, welcome home." How about you? Do you think this scripture describes the state of our churches? Repent, refresh. revive! Rise up children of God, rise up!
